Al-Wakrah Sports Club, founded in 1959, is one of the oldest clubs in Qatar. The club is located in the city of Al-Wakrah in the southeast of Qatar, from which it takes its name. The club’s football team competes in the Qatar Stars League and plays its matches at Al Janoub Stadium. The club was officially established under the name “Al-Wakrah Youth Club.” Sports teams began to form since that time, including football, basketball, handball, and others. The club’s sports base expanded over time, leading to the establishment of other sports teams such as volleyball, athletics, table tennis, bowling, and chess. The club’s management also showed an interest in cultural and social activities, forming a cultural committee and teams for drama and music.
