The Al-Bayt Stadium was chosen to host the opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Qatar drew upon its rich cultural fabric to welcome the world, inviting visitors to enjoy the comfort that this part of the world has been providing to its guests for centuries. The stadium’s design was inspired by the traditional tent-like structure known as “Bayt Al Sha’ar,” which was once home to desert-dwelling people. It beautifully embodies the shape of a modern football stadium.

Sustainability was a top priority in the development of Al-Bayt Stadium. The upper-tier seats were designed to be dismantled after the World Cup for use in other projects. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 68,895 people.
