Umm Salal Muhammad Castle is located kilometers north of Doha and is among the most famous forts that attract tourists in Qatar. The fort dates back to the 19th century and consists of a four-story building with thick sandy-colored walls, adorned with beautifully detailed architectural designs. Historically, this fort functioned as a residential stronghold that catered to both military and civil needs. It houses several rooms, including a liwan (courtyard), a storeroom, a women’s council, a kitchen, a room for storing utensils, a grain storage, a bathroom, and a swimming pool. The fort was constructed using limestone and mud, and its walls, both interior and exterior, are coated with local plaster.
